Dangle Sauces

A dangle is a crazy moved to get around a defender or a move to fake out a goalie. In my opinion the best dangler in the National Hockey League is Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings. His moves are so insane i just want to cry. To be a dangler you have to know when to put on the move. If you do it to early you get the puck poked away. If you do it to late you will get hit. If you make to many moves you will most likely fake yourself out and lose the puck. You have to make the move at just the right time and know how to finish or score. To fake someone ou tit is a good idea to throw a head fake or something in there. It throws the opponent or the goaltender off. Pretty much to be a dangler you have to know what your doing. You have to have sick flow and you have to make stuff happen. There are two different kinds of hockey players. The guys that make things happen. And the guys that watch it happen. Thats the rules of the road for the danglers. Another dangler is Alexander Ovechkin. He is just an unstoppable tank. He makes goalies and defenders feel stupid. He is one of the only hockey players to score from his back. He can put the puck in the top corner of the net with just a flick of the wrist. He is a modern day magician and continues to amaze hockey fans all over the world.

The Gear

Although the sport of Hockey can seem dangerous. Their are many safety precautions taken before the games. All the equipment has to be certified and authenticated before put to use. The most important piece of armor is your helmet. The helmet protects against skull fractures and all that good stuff. There is one major piece of equipment that may seem silly but plays a very important role. The mouth guard. The mouth guard protects mainly against concussions. It also might save a few teeth as well. I would recommend the Cascade helmets. They make for a snug fit and are probably your best bet for the safest helmet. It has much better protection and you are less likely to get a concussion.
On to the shoulder pads. The shoulder pads play a big role in the checking game. If you have to little of shoulder pads it will be easier and faster to move around on the ice but, you will also get knocked around easier and it might hurt a lot more. If you have bigger shoulder pads it would be the opposite. You could be a tad slower and it would be easier to knock people on their butts.
There are thousands of different kinds of gloves available. They make them in every color imaginable. The type of glove you get depends on what the player likes. I personally like the wider gloves. I think its easier to stick handle and dangle with wider gloves. People might have different opinions. They might like the narrow gloves. They might like it tighter around their hand just in case their glove doesn't fall off.
The pants protect you from braking your tailbone. They also have padding all around which is good for blocking shots. Your pants and your Shoulder Pads should be touching to insure safety.
The jock or cup is used to protect your. You know whats. It is also used to keep your socks from falling down. The shin pads are used for blocking shots and to make sure it doesn't hurt when you take a digger. The elbow pads are there to make sure you don't bust an elbow on the ice. These are the basic essentials that you suit up with.

The Earliest Years of Hockey

In the begginning hockey was not played on ice. The game of Hockey has been around from the time of early civilization. Some of the reports find the earliest origin of the game 4000 years back. Field hockey was reportedly played even before the birth of Christ. Basically known as the “ball and stick” game, it was played since ancient times in places diverse as Rome, Scotland, Egypt and South America. The game was referred to in different names but the basic idea of playing the game was the same. The most used term was “Hockie” by the Irish. Though the term was lost years ago, the word found its way through to the present generation.
In the 17th and the early 18th century England, the game acquired a fiercely competitive and crazy form. Villages would compete against their neighboring villages and there were nearly 100 players in one team. The game was for pride and manhood. So the game acquired a dangerous form. The game would last for half a month and many players would end up injured and grievously hurt. The Referees were there but they were more of mute spectators, who would make a call only if a team asked them to.

After some years, common sense and a logical and organized approach to the game came into play with the introduction of revision of rules. The game was limited to 30 players for each team. The Eton College of England drafted some rules to bring sanity to the game. The Hockey Association was formed in the year 1875 and some of the rules thrown out. The results were quite positive and more rules like giving the Referee enough authority were soon drawn to improve the quality of the game.
The 1917-1918 NHL season had a rough start. Right off the bat a team called the “Bulldogs” backed out, followed by the Montreal Wanderers in January of 1918. Being only a tiny part of what they once were, the Wanderers ended in one of the most memorable way a franchise could back then.
There was another problem facing the newly formed NHL. The league was formed as a result of a split of the NHA. Owners of the teams in this league were not happy with Eddie Livingstone who owned the Toronto Blue Shirts. They did not invite Livingstone to join the NHL, and this led to years and years of fighting. The NHL leased Livingstone’s team, which played in the Toronto Arena. When they won the Stanley Cup, Livingstone was not given the spoils of the victory. Instead, his team was incorporated into a new club and named the Toronto Arenas. As a result, Livingstone sued the league. In spite of this confusion, the NHL rose out of these beginnings to make their presence known in the world of professional hockey. The
history of the NHL had trouble at the beginning, but, like the game of hockey itself, the NHL rose out of the struggle to be successful.

The Twigs and Skates

The twigs also known as hockey sticks determine how fast and where you want to put your shot. There are many different flexes on sticks it starts at youth which is around a 40 flex stick and goes up to around a senior stick which is around a 1oo flex. In the old days a stick was made out of solid wood. Although it was very heavy, there is a plus side to having a wood stick. You could put any kind of curve you wanted on it. All you had to do was take a torch and heat up the blade and curve it to your liking. Today sticks are made out of a composite material. It is sometimes coated with a fiberglass outline. I am pretty sure there are only a few NHL player s that still use wood sticks. One of those guys is Jason Spezza. He plays on the Ottawa Senators.

Lets talk about the boots or the skates. Skates are a big reason why players are a lot faster than they used to be. The skates in the old days used to be big heavy pieces of equipment. Players were still fast but not as fast as they could be. Today skates are a few pounds lighter. That may not seem that much. Trust me it is.

Recently there has been a recall of some Nike Bauer hockey sticks. You can send these sticks in to Bauer and get some brand new sticks.

I had an old Bauer One75 stick that I used for street hockey and I sent that in. I got 173.00$ towards a new Bauer or Nike Bauer hockey stick. They did this because they found a low but still lethal amount of lead in the paint used on those sticks.

Goalie sticks are much different than Player sticks. Goalie sticks have a paddle in the middle of the stick that goes all the way down to the blade. This was put in so the goalie can out the stick flat on the ice and the puck can not squeeze through.
Goalies also jave a different design in the skate. They are not as tall and have a plastic coating around them for protection. This can protect from the hardest of shots.

Our Hometown Heroes

What's up with the Hawks? I mean come on. Your down 2 games to 1 going in to the fourth game of the playoff series and you need a win. The leaders on this team need to step it up. You don't see Kobe or Lebron do absolutely nothing in big playoff games like these. Why are guys like Toews and Hossa not putting the puck in the net? We need big games from big players and right now that just isn't happening. Goaltending is a very important part in the postseason. And with soft goals you know your team is going to lose.

A seemingly harmless backhand flick by Nashville Predators forward J.P. Dumont led to the softest goal in this postseason. It also put the seventh-seeded Preds on the way to a 4-1 victory over the second-seeded Chicago Blackhawks in Game 1 of the first-round series at the United Center on Friday. With Chicago leading 1-0 off a second-period goal by Patrick Kane, Dumont sent the the puck slowly toward the Blackhawks net from the a few feet inside the blue line a minute and half into to third period. Goalie Antti Niemi, playing in his first career postseason, backed into his net and allowed the puck to take an odd bounce off the ice and then off the far post. "I was just trying to backhand it toward the net," Dumont said. "I saw Joel Ward driving the net. I was hoping for a rebound or something, but lucky for us it bounced in. It was a lucky bounce, but we'll take it.".
The Hawks orginazation started when Frederic McLaughlin purchased the Portland Rosebuds moving them to Chicago to play in the NHL. The team, which became known as the Black Hawks. Their first game was against the Toronto St. Pats and they won with a score of 4 to 1. They finished 3rd in the league but lost in the playoffs to the Boston Bruins. The hawks need to step it up. Thats all I am saying.

" In the NHL knowledge is as important as muscle."

Checking is a very essential aspect in the game of hockey. To some people it may seem like total non-sense but, it seperates the man from the puck. Although you can hit people it doesn't mean everytime you do it will be legal. If you catch someone up high or in the face you could be called for a hit to the head. If he gets a serious injury you could get a 5 minute major penalty and have to serve 5 minutes in the sin bin. That is probably the best thing that could happen. The worst thing that could happen is he is seriously injured and you get kicked out of the game. Then the National Hockey League Officials get together and discuss the problem. If they say it was a clean hit, your free to go. If not you can get suspended anywhere from just one game Almost up to twenty.

Checking can also be the end of someones career. During a game Steve Moore a member of the Coloraso Avalalanche was hit in the back of the head by Todd Bertuzzi of the Vancouver Canucks. Two things happened to Todd Bertuzzi that day. He was suspended for a few games and he ended Steve Moore's career. Steve Moore ended up with a fractured neck but never got around to suiting back up. In todays world there are many contact sports such as Football or Rugby and even if a Baseball game goes wrong some kind of contact is made. Hockey is the fastest game on ice. The more speed you get and the more contact you make the harder the hit will be. It's physics really.

The basic procedure to make a hit is to bend your knees, center your gravity, and lean in to them with your shoulder. Its simple if you think about it but when you translate it in to a real game its pretty hard. You have to angle and time it right so you can make contact. When you go for it people can make you look sillly. If you miss, everybody will think you are a bender. About 1 out of 3 times that happens. The person dangles around you and leaves you looking and feeling like an idiot.

The point of checking is to seperate the man from the puck and gain control of the biscuit. When you hit you want to make sure you stay on your feet because if you fall and he falls then the puck is just laying there which hopefully someone on your team will come and pick it up. If you fall and he is still on his feet. Then you pray that he doesn't go down and score on your tender.
